NO PLANT OFFER IN  2013

The year 2013 will be a "Break Year" in our garden. In 2012 we had an unusual high demand for our plants and we now need a "Break Year" to clear up planting sites, to re-grow our stocks and to select and propagate new varieties. This means that in 2013 we will not offer and sell any plants and will not register and introduce new varieties. However, will serve the orders that have arrived here until Oktober 31, 2012.

The pictures and descriptions shown in this part of our homepage are kept in the internet in order to provide information about the plants we will probably offer in 2014.

Weinkönigin
Iris sibirica WEINKÖNIGIN (Tamberg 2012)
This is one of the most floriferous tetraploids we know of. The flower spikes often have a double side branching. Falls and standards are wide and ruffled. Further more, the bright wine red colour has a better garden effect than the dark purple colours of other Sibiricas in this colour class. Weinkönigin is vigorous, healthy and fertile in both directions. The flower spikes are about 85 cm tall . . . . . . € 16,--

Northern Yellow
Iris sibtosa-Hybride NORTHERN YELLOW (Tamberg 2012)
With this cultivar the yellow colour is for the first time shown to a significant extent in a Sibirica/Setosa hybrid. This was achieved by using the yellow Sibirica Tom Schaefer as the seed parent. Northern yellow is vigorous, hardy and floriferous, but sterile. It is about 70 cm high . . . Sold out for 2012

Libellentanz
Iris versilaev-Hybride LIBELLENTANZ (Tamberg 2012)
We got this stately plant by back-crossing a tetraploid Iris laevigata to a tetraploid versilaev hybrid. Its flowers are significantly larger than flowers of normal Tetra-Versilaev hybrids and are produced on taller, branched stems. This is the first introduction of a hybrid with a 3/4 Iris laevigata and a 1/4 Iris versicolor parentage. Libellentanz can be planted near or even in water and it is less vigorous when planted on a dry garden bed. The flower spikes are about 75 cm high . . . €16,--

Libellenflug
Iris versata-Hybride LIBELLENFLUG (Tamberg 2012)
From the BIS seed exchange we got seeds of tetraploid Iris versicolor x ensata hybrids sent by the Canadian hybridizer Toni Huber. The group of seedlings was not very exciting, but it contained a single plant which stood out by enormous vigour and also was very floriferous. Its flowers are nearly double the size of those of its siblings. The flower spikes show a double branching and are about 90 cm tall. Occasionally they need a staking.  Like its relative Libellentanz Libellenflug needs a wet planting site for best performance. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . € 15,--

Lavender Landscape
Iris sibtosa-Hybride LAVENDER LANDSCAPE (Tamberg 2012)
This is a plant for use in landscape gardening. It was produced by crossing a tetraploid Sibirica of near-species appearance with one of our best Tetra-Sibtosa hybrids. Like both of its parents it has lavender-pink flowers with lighter standards. The flower spikes grow to a height of 150 cm, have a twofold branching and produce seven flowers. The stems and the narrow leaves are strictly upright and in this way they produce a columnar appearance of the clump. Lavender Landscape is one of our most "garden-effective" cultivars. In 2011 we noticed a significant spontaneous seed setting in spite of its 3/1 genetic makeup  . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . € 16,--

Sibirisches Gold
Iris sibirica SIBIRISCHES GOLD (Tamberg 2012)
A cross between the cultivars Tom Schaefer  and  Sunfisher resulted in this yellow Sibirica of delicate growth habit. It can produce one, sometimes two side branches of the the flower stems and shows a much better, sun-resistant yellow than earlier cultivars like Butter and Sugar or Gelbe Möwe. The flower spikes grow to about 65 cm. Sibirisches Gold is fertile in both directions . . . . . . . . . . . . . Sold out for 2012

Ray Jeffs
Iris Sibcal hybrid RAY JEFFS (Tamberg  2011)
Sibcal hybrids are produced by back-crossing Tetra-Calsibes to Tetra-Sino- Sibiricas. RAY JEFFS, named in honour of a deceased English friend and iris lover, is the most beautiful in a long series of Sibcal hybrids we have produced. Whereas nearly all the others did not become named varieties due to their lack of longevity, Ray Jeffs is not only beautiful, but vigorous and long-living. The stem can develop a side branch and are 80 to 90 cm tall. According to its genetic composition this variety is only reluctantly fertile. . . . . . . . . .Sold out for 2012

Bluebird Fountain
Iris Versitosa hybrid BLUEBIRD FOUNTAIN (Tamberg 2011)
Worldwide the first named variety from the new hybrid group "Versitosa hybrids". They are produced by crossing Iris versicolor with tetraploid Iris setosa. Since I. versicolor is considered to be a tetraploid natural hybrid between I. virginica and I. setosa, Versitosa hybrids can be seen as plants with 1/4 Virginica- und 3/4 Setosa-blood. They are very vigorous and floriferous when planted at a humid place. Stems are about 80 cm tall and can develop three side branches and 11 buds. The flowers of BLUEBIRD FOUNTAIN are of medium size and have flaring falls . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . € 12,--

Sumpfprinzessin
Iris virginica hybrid SUMPFPRINZESSIN (Tamberg 2011)
A floriferous iris for wet places that covers larger and larger areas in one of our swamp beds. The flowers are larger than those of the pure I. virginica, and the colour of the signal is deeper yellow than shown in the picture. Due to a lost label the plant has an unknown pollen parent. Hight of stems about 65 cm. . . € 10,--

SSTT796
Iris sibirica BLAUE FÜLLE (Tamberg 2010)
A tetraploid from the cross PRUSSIAN BLUE x GOLDEN EDGE, showing a maximum of width and ruffling of the floral parts. The dark blue flowers of medium size have a velvety surface structure. SSTT974
Iris sibtosa hybrid SIBTOSA WINE (Tamberg 2010)
By back-crossing a pale wine red Tetra-Sibtosa seedling to our wine red Tetra-Sibirica GROSSER WEIN we produced this worldwide first wine red 3/1 Tetra-Sibtosa hybrid. Three quarters of its genetic makeup come from the Sibirica-group, one quarter is contributed by Iris setosa. Accordingly, this variety is vigorous and floriferous. It flowers during the main Sibirica flowering period with well branched stems of 80 cm height and is, as a result of its genetic 3/1 composition, nearly sterile. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . € 13,--

SSTT806
Iris sibirica KLEINER SCHMETTERLING (Tamberg 2010)
A small flowered, diploid Sibirica of the general shape of the wild species, however with much wider falls and more interesting colours. The falls have a yellow background and are covered with a blue line pattern; the standards are clear blue. Flowers are produced on well branched stems high above the narrow leaves. A charming Sibirica for a garden with a wildflower touch . . . . . €  8,--

   SSTT395

   SSTT395 Horst
Iris sibirica BLAUES FINALE (Tamberg 2009)
This is one of the Siberians with the latest flowering period in our garden. It is a tetraploid of medium height (70 cm) with large, bright mid-blue flowers having a special effect from the distance. Falls are wide and the standards are upright with the tips growing a bit outward. The flower spikes are un-branched , but there are many of them. Derived from from a similar cross as RAUCHBLAU it flowers much later . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . ..Sold out for 2012

 Rauchblau
Iris sibirica RAUCHBLAU  (Tamberg 2007)
A large flowered tetraploid Sibirica derived from a cross between a mottled seedling, called "Milky Way seedling", and a pure white Tetra-Sibirica. Falls are ruffled and show a smoky blue colour. Standards and style arms are of a lighter blue resulting in a special clump effect of this variety. The flower stems are strong, up to 90 cm high and produce a side branch. In the trials of the Royal Horticultural Society at Wisley this variety got an Award of Garden Merit (AGM) as a garden plant. It is a tetraploid produced by colchicine treatment, which, in contrast to earlier Tetra-Sibtosas, has wide and strongly ruffled falls as well as a strong colouration. The flower stems are about 75 cm high and develop a side branch. SIBTOSA WAVE is also an important breeding plant in the field of Sibtosa hybrids. It is pollen fertile, but only reluctantly seed fertile. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .Sold out for 2011

 Großer Wein
Iris sibirica GROSSER WEIN (Tamberg 2005)
Of all the wine red Siberian irises we have flowered, GROSSER WEIN is the one with the largest flowers. Of course, large flowers are not always beautiful, too, but in this case large flowers with wide and elegantly ruffled falls are combined with tall and upright stems of  90 cm height. Only two flowers are formed per stem, but this is compensated by the high number of stems formed by a clump. The variety is fertile and flowers during the earlier part of  the Siberian  main flowering period . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . €  8,--

 Drei Quellen
Iris sibirica DREI QUELLEN (Tamberg 2005)
Producing flower spikes of up to 100 cm height this variety is our first tetraploid Siberian containing genetic material of all three Sibirica species (2n=28). It was produced by a cross between a wine red tetraplois Siberian having Iris sibirica and Iris sanguinea as ancestors with a tetraploid Iris typhifolia, that was available to us for a short time. Like all children of Iris typhifolia DREI QUELLEN flowers early and has rather narrow leaves. Furthermore it is extremely vigorous. An important variety for breeding early flowering tetraploid Siberians . . . . . . . . . . . . €  5,--

 Erste Sahne
Iris sibirica ERSTE SAHNE (Tamberg 2005)
Derived from a cross of VIEL CREME with a converted seedling from GELBE MÖVE x SILVER ILLUSION, this tetraploide Siberian produced the largest and widest flowers we have ever seen on a white Siberian iris. Strong stems can produce up to two side branches. Related to the size of the flowers their height of about 65 cm is a bit short. However, planted in the foreground, this variety can produce an excellent clump effect. The flowers of ERSTE SAHNE open with a cream white colour and change to white under sunlight. The variety is fertile . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . € 15,--

 Blaues Schweben
Iris sibirica BLAUES SCHWEBEN (Tamberg 2005)
A diploid Siberian iris derived from SAILORS FANCY x SIGNALS BLUE. Both of these famous blue parent varieties have contributed to the light blue of BLAUES SCHWEBEN which is accentuated by some darker blue lines in the throat. In addition to the colour and the shape of the wide and flat flowers, this variety shows a remarkable free flowering habit. A fully developed clump can virtually be covered by light blue during the flowering period. Height of stems: 65 cm; midseason flowering period . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . € 10,--

 Sibtosa Ruffles
Iris sibtosa-hybrid SIBTOSA RUFFLES (Tamberg 2005)
By back-crossing a lavender coloured Tetra-Sibtosa-hybrid to the strongly ruffled Siberian STRAWBERRY FAIR we obtained this highly vigorous 3/4-1/4-Tetra-Sibtosa, showing ruffled falls as well as ruffled standards. The colour of the flowers is somewhere between magenta and violet-blue; The flower spikes of 80 cm height can produce two side   branches. SIBTOSA RUFFLES flowers during the Siberian main flowering period. Because of its asymmetrical genetic composition it is sterile . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . €  8,--

   Sahnehaeubchen
Iris sibtosa-hybrid SAHNEHÄUBCHEN (Tamberg 2005)
Another Tetra-Sibtosa-hybrid, derived by back-crossing a lavender coloured Tetra-Sibtosa- hybrid to the lavender-pink Siberian LADY LILAC. In this variety the contrast between the wide pink to lavender coloured falls and the near white standards and style arms is especially strong. The picture shows the flower immediately after the bud has opened. Later, the falls will develop a more vertical position. This hybrid does not set seed. It flowers on branched stems of 75 cm height during the main flowering period of Siberian irises . . . . . . . . . . . .  12,--

 Violetta
Iris sibtosa-hybrid BERLIN VIOLETTA (Tamberg 2005)
The velvety dark violet of this Tetra-Sibtosa-hybrid is reproduced only poorly by the picture. The variety has been produced by back-crossing a lavender coloured Tetra-Sibtosa-hybrid to the wine red Siberian iris BERLIN PURPLE WINE. It is very vigorous and is quickly forming large clumps which provide intensive colour effects. Like all 3/4-1/4-Tetra-Sibtosa hybrids it does not set seed. It flowers on stems of 75 cm height in the second half of the Siberian main flowering period . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . €  6,--

Iris sibirica JUGENDTRAUM (Tamberg  2001)
A diploid Sibirica which is extremely floriferous. It produces wide petalled flowers of lavender colour with a pink hue. Flower stems are about 80 cm high and develop a single side branch. Due to the strong demand we had to withdraw it for propagation.

 Berlin Sevigata
Iris sevigata hybrid BERLIN SEVIGATA (Tamberg 1988)
This is still worldwide the only hybrid from the cross Iris setosa x Iris laevigata, with two wild Japanese Setosas under suspicion to be natural hybrids of the same type. Since we cultivate this variety in a swamp bed, it has developped its full beauty and has increased strongly. The plant can produce flower stems of 110 cm hight and with wide branching. It can be cultivated successfully with the roots in water . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . Sold out for 2012

Iris sibirica TANZ NOCHMAL (Tamberg 2001)
A large flowered tetraploid with ruffled falls and standards. Flowers are held on short and stout stems formed in good numbers. The variety earns further interest due to its reblooming behaviour: well watered and well fed plants often produce reblooming spikes which are taller and better branched. That means that the variety shows signs of "preferential reblooming", a rare quality in Siberians. We know of no other Siberian rebloomer showing such a good shape of the flowers . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . €  7,--
